Google Documents are pretty simple. It is just a basic word processing application. Think Microsoft Word, but with a fewer bells and whistles. What Google Documents has that Word doesn't is the ability to share documents through the cloud and collaborate in real time. This opens up a whole new world for education.
Comment on Student Work
With Google Documents, you can comment on student work throughout the process or a grading explanation. Any notes you would typically write on the margin of a paper can be written as comments that correspond specifically to highlighted text or areas of the document you wish to comment on. Your name and timestamp are automatically recorded in the comment, so students can comment back with questions.

Collaboration
You can have multiple students simultaneously working on a collaborative document from different computers or locations. Google Chat is built right in, so they can discuss they're ideas before typing their parts of the document so all students collaborate in all places.
This collaboration feature is also great when working with other teachers to collaborate on lessons, PLCs and so on! |
