Weebly is a super easy tool for creating websites. The website can be as complex or simple as the user chooses. There are a variety of themes to choose from. The user can choose to customize his website by changing colors of background and font, upload his own images for headers, link to social media, and countless other ways. He can also just use one of the themes as is and customize his blog with content. Regardless of how complex the user chooses to make the site, the product has a clean, professional appearance.
Weebly is very user-friendly. The tool utilizes a simple drag and drop method of creation. The user first chooses whether he would like to add a block of text, text with an image, a video, etc. He then clicks on this icon and drags it onto his webpage. The site can have numerous pages and subpages, allowing for a truly unique presentation. Again, the addition and customization of pages can be as simple or complex as the user chooses. He can format one page into columns, include slideshows, and add videos, then have the next page be just text with a header.
Something else to consider is the accessibility of Weebly. Students can access this anywhere they have an internet connection. There's no specialized software that needs to be on their computer, so they can use any part of the school, home computers, even their phones! There is also no compatibility issue to work around, such as having a different version of the software at home than they use at school.

How can I use Weebly in MY classroom?
These are some of my favorite uses for Weebly in the classroom! If you have other great ideas for using Weebly, please tell us about them in the Forum below!
- Research project - Practically every content area does some sort of research or inquiry-based assignment during the course. Weebly is an excellent way for students to display their findings, cite their sources, and reflect on the implications of their research.
- Presentation - We ask students to present on a vast number of topics throughout their scholastic career. Having them create websites not only makes for a more entertaining presentation than PowerPoint does, but it also allows you to navigate for a number of purposes as you're grading and offering suggestions.
- Collaboration - You can create accounts for students, but you can also create group accounts for group projects. Students can all be logged into the site on different computers and edit their parts of the site simultaneously. This allows you to make the most of computer lab time, and it allows them to be contributing equally to the project. You can set up your project in a way that makes their participation and product very defined, or you can set it up to allow them to each contribute to all elements of the site.
- Web-based Instruction or Webquest - You can use your Weebly website to create a comprehensive activity. Your students can navigate the site to conduct research, master a skill, or complete any number of projects.
- Portfolios - Even if you do not choose to use Weebly as a tool to create the actual assignments, it's a great way to organize student work into a digital portfolio. This allows you to eliminate those giant folders of work (both in the file cabinet and on the computer!). Any project or item can be digitized to use in this portfolio. You can record a student presentation and upload the video to Weebly. You can take pictures of 3D projects and upload those. You can provide links to other online creations. You can copy and paste writing assignments. You even can embed a PowerPoint if you're dead set on making one! The best part about portfolios is not only can a student be responsible for collecting and organizing his own work, but he can even reflect on each assignment or a selection of assignments as part of the portfolio-making process.
- Teaching a Lesson - This is a perfect way to organize a lesson or unit to present to the class. Everything you need is there - you can include assignments, rubrics, videos, images, forums, quizzes, and surveys. And the best part is that you can edit it at home any time! Sure beats keeping up with a flash drive everywhere you go!
- Collection of Student Work - Do you hold onto old posters, projects, papers, etc. because they serve as great examples for future students? It would be so easy to create a Weebly to organize all of those artifacts. Just like with the student portfolios, you could upload images of 3D projects and videos of presentations, paste in papers, and so on, but you can also incorporate the instructions for the assignment and the rubric/grading information you used. You can edit at any time, so as your projects and objectives evolve, you can update your Weebly as needed. The best part is that all student work will be easily accessible if a current student needs an example of what you're asking for them to do.
What are your ideas for using Weebly in the classroom? We'd love to see your examples as well!
